Understanding Travelport's Profile Hierarchy: MAR, BAR, & PAR Explained
Published in GDS & Fare Rules on August 24, 2025
In the Travelport GDS, effective profile management is key to efficiency and personalization. The system is categorized into three distinct levels: Agency Profile (MAR), Business Profile (BAR), and Personal Profile (PAR). Understanding the role of each is fundamental to streamlining your booking process.
## Agency Profile (MAR)
The Agency Profile, or MAR, contains the essential information for the travel agency itself. This profile is the foundation, housing the agency’s policies, operational procedures, and accepted forms of payment. It also includes the primary agency contact number, which is automatically populated into the first Phone field of every PNR/Booking File. Travelport is responsible for creating these agency files, with each Pseudo City Code (PCC) being assigned a single MAR file to ensure agency-specific settings are applied consistently.
## Business Profile (BAR)
The Business Profile, known as a BAR, is specifically designed for your corporate accounts. It holds critical business-specific details such as the company's contact number, their preferred forms of payment, any applicable corporate discounts, and other unique company policies. The BAR profile is essential for managing corporate travel efficiently, as it helps align bookings with the specific needs and travel policies of each corporate client.
## Personal Profile (PAR)
The Personal Profile, or PAR, contains detailed information about the individual traveller. This includes the traveller's full name, contact details, preferred form of payment, frequent flyer numbers, loyalty discount numbers, and personal preferences for meals and seating. Using PARs ensures that an individual’s preferences are accurately and automatically reflected in their bookings, enhancing the travel experience through personalization and saving agents significant time.
These three profile types work together to create a comprehensive, structured approach to managing information within the Travelport GDS. Mastering their use is a key step toward facilitating efficient, personalized, and policy-compliant travel arrangements for every client.
